Dr. Joost VandeVondele

Dr. Joost VandeVondele is the Deputy Director for Science at the Swiss National Supercomputing Centre (CSCS) at ETH Zurich. In this role, he oversees the development of CSCS’s research infrastructure, ensuring it supports world-class science requiring high-performance computing (HPC) and extreme-scale data. Together with his team, he delivered Alps, one of the world’s most AI-capable and energy-efficient supercomputing infrastructures for open science. He actively engages with the research community as a member of the scientific steering committee of the Swiss AI Initiative, contributing to the delivery of the open LLM Apertus; as Program Director for the Platform for Advanced Scientific Computing (PASC); and member of the governing board of the EuroHPC JU.
